Choose Your Perfect Shirt
All of our formal shirts are tailored from the finest two-fold cotton and different techniques are used to create a variety of shirting fabrics, each with their own unique look and handle.
Poplin is the quintessential shirt fabric and uses fine yarns with a simple under/over weave pattern that creates a very smooth texture. Formal shirts in this fabric have a silky handle and look smart and crisp when ironed.
End-on-end shirts are in effect poplins, but their unique heathered appearance is created using one darker and one lighter (usually white) thread.
Twill fabrics have a weft thread that runs over and under multiple warp threads, creating a diagonal weave. Formal shirts in twill fabrics are very durable and have a soft handle.
Herringbone weaves are in fact a type of twill and take their name from their distinctive V-shaped weave pattern, similar to the bones of herring. A smart choice, a herringbone shirt is a subtle alternative to the more conventional shirt fabrics such as poplin.
