Tweed Jackets. A Rich Heritage.

Tweed Jackets. A Rich Heritage.

Tweed has a rich heritage stretching back to the 18th Century.  Originally from Scotland tweed is traditionally a coarse pure wool cloth with a twill weave ("tweel" where the name "tweed" comes from, is the Scottish version of '"twill").  At Joseph Turner, we source the tweed for our tweed jackets from three long-established, UK and Ireland based mills.

Kynoch - established over 200 years ago, the Kynoch name is synonymous with fine weaving.  Renowned for the individuality of their tweeds, which are expertly woven in such as way as to create complex and subtle colours and shades, Kynoch combine modern machinery with traditional skills in fabric design, manufacture and finishing.

Abraham Moon - founded in 1837 and based in Yorkshire, Abraham Moon is one of Great Britain's last remaining woollen mills who continue to complete all processes on one site.  Abraham Moon focus on quality from the sourcing of Pure New Wool, to the precise and unique combinations of dyes used, to the blending of up to 7 different coloured wools, to the carding, the spinning, the weaving and the finishing.  All of these processes form an integral part of creating the finest men's tweed jackets.
Marton Mills - established in 1931 in West Yorkshire, Marton Mills pride themselves on weaving the very finest quality fabrics.  Their tweed range is made of pure wool, giving a luxurious feel to the fabric.
