Julian Norton and Peter Wright

At Joseph Turner, we are lucky enough to be just a stone’s throw away from the Skeldale Veterinary Surgery, where this documentary is filmed. Situated in the quaint and charming market town of Thirsk, this heartwarming series follows Julian Norton and Peter Wright, partners at James Herriot’s former practice, and captures the day-to-day animal dramas as they unfold.

The series invokes many parallels with the writings of James Herriot, author of the work that inspired the popular TV series ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ and in fact one of the partners, Peter, actually trained to become a vet with Alf Wight (aka James Herriot) when he first began his career.

James Herriot has had a great influence on Thirsk, so much so that the area is known as Herriot Country and it covers some of the most beautiful countryside found in the UK, including the world famous North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales.  Filmed against this backdrop, ‘The Yorkshire Vet’ gives an authentic insight into the day-to-day workings of a rural Veterinary Surgery and how the work of Alf Wight influenced the modern day practice.   Julian and Peter, the stars of this fly-on-the-wall documentary, get up close and personal with some of the local animals including a ferocious pig, a herd of beloved dairy cows and an alpaca called Lothario, who didn’t quite live up to his namesake’s reputation!

Yorkshire Country Style

We love Julian and Peters’ country style, so we invited them over to the Joseph Turner offices and asked them if they would be happy to have a look through our Autumn/Winter collection and pick out a few of their favourite items.

Julian is wearing one of our Button Down Oxford Shirts paired with a woven Wool/Silk Tie, which adds a subtle country feel to this versatile shirt. This combination has been complemented with a pair of Twill Jeans, a Casual Leather Belt and the Sahara Boots. The Fleece Gilet, with its non-restrictive sleeveless design, helps to create the perfect outfit for a country vet.
