(Amaury Sport Organisation) and Welcome to Yorkshire and will see the riders take on an abundance of hills and tricky terrain whilst tackling the 490km challenge. This years Tour de Yorkshire will take place this weekend, Friday 28th – Sunday 30th April.

The Tour de Yorkshire is a 3 day road cycling race which started in 2015. It began life as an event following the Grand Départ of the 2014 Tour de France, which took place in Yorkshire. Due to its immense popularity the Tour de Yorkshire has become an annual event and is now Britain’s second biggest stage race. Every year this tour event takes place in some of the county’s most picturesque towns and countryside and this year is no exception.

STAGE ONE: 173km •  BRIDLINGTON TO SCARBOROUGH Friday 28 April

This year the race begins outside Bridlington Spa. The cyclists will then head through Driffield and then on to Pocklington, for their first sprint, before making their way through Malton and into Pickering. The race continues towards Whitby, where the riders will get a great view of the abbey as they take on the second sprint of the day. The climax of stage one will take place along the renowned Scarborough North Bay.

STAGE TWO: 122.5km • TADCASTER TO HARROGATE Saturday 29 April

The action of stage two starts on the Tadcaster Bridge and takes a tour of the town before heading towards Wetherby. The route then meanders into Knaresborough, and on to Ripley, where the cyclists will pass Ripley Castle before heading into Nidderdale. The riders will then head through Masham – home of the Black Sheep and Theakston breweries, before continuing on to West Tanfield. Then it’s full steam ahead into Ripon for the second intermediate sprint where the race will skirt Studley Park before passing within a stone’s throw of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Garden. Stage two will then conclude on Parliament Street in Harrogate.

STAGE THREE: 194.5km • BRADFORD TO FOX VALLEY, SHEFFIELD Sunday 30 April

The cyclists will ride out of Bradford heading towards Ilkley and Addingham. The route will then continue through the Yorkshire Dales National Park before heading into Skipton and Keighley. The riders will then hit the infamous Côte de Shibden Wall. This cobbled incline could see splits form in the peloton but a few riders may be able to make contact again as they skirt Huddersfield. Penistone, Wortley and Snowden Hill represent the calm before the storm, and once the final intermediate sprint has been contested in Stocksbridge the riders then embark on an agonising 22km final circuit where they will battle it out for victory.
